Cemetery Commission
The Cemetery Commissioners are volunteers who are responsible for the care and management of the town's cemeteries. Each commissioner is elected for a term of three years.
Our main public cemetery is the Assonet Burying Ground on South Main Street. Cemetery lots are also available in the East Freetown Cemetery on Pocasset Lane (off Chace Road). A special area for veterans and their spouses is available in the Assonet Burying Ground, and interested persons are encouraged to ask about this area.
Please note, the Chace Cemetery on Chace Road is a private cemetery. The Cemetery Commission cannot provide you help with this cemetery; you must contact the Chace Cemetery Association.
