What is the difference between the Historical Commission and Historical Society?

The Freetown Historical Commission is a municipal agency responsible for ensuring that preservation concerns are considered in community planning and development decisions. Commission members are appointed to serve three-year terms.

The Freetown Historical Society was founded in 1968 as a non-profit corporation to preserve the history and artifacts on Americana, in particular that of Freetown and the Nearby area. The musuem is provided and maintained by the generous work, efforts, ideas, contributions, and financial support by the society's members and friends.
