Public Meeting Postings

In accordance with the Commonwealth's Open Meeting Law, all meeting notices are posted at least 48 hours before meetings are held, with minutes of meetings posted as soon as possible following the meetings. The Office of the Town Clerk is responsible for these meeting postings, which are supplied by the individual boards/committees/sub-committees/commissions. The 48-hour time frame does not include Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays, though there is an allowance in the Open Meeting Law (940 CMR 29.03(1)(a)) for emergency meetings, which can be posted within that 48-hour time frame.

The Town of Freetown's Official Meeting Posting Location: FreetownMA.gov

The official meeting postings for public bodies is the Town of Freetown's website (www.freetownma.gov).  Our municipal website fulfills the meeting notice requirements of the Open Meeting Law. Original copies of meeting postings will be posted on the town bulletin board located on the first floor of Town Hall available for public view during regular town hall hours.

The official location for posting meeting notices and agendas for all boards/committees/commissions (expect the Freetown Lakeville Regional School Committee and their related district committees and subcommittees) is here on the Town's website, specifically here: https://www.freetownma.gov/minutes-and-agendas. In addition to the town website, all meeting notices and agendas are also posted in the Town Hall on the bulletin board located on the first floor hallway.

Legal Notices

Effective January 1, 2023, Public Hearing notices and other legal notices can also be found on the Town's website, specifically here: https://www.freetownma.gov/legal-notices (previously, these notices were mixed in with meeting agendas). In addition to the town website, all legal notices are also posted in the Town Hall on the bulletin board located on the first floor hallway.

Meeting Minutes

If you are submitting a meeting posting, please note that the following applies to the meeting:  Minutes of all open and executive sessions shall be and approved in a timely manner.  A "timely manner" will be generally be considered to be within the next three (3) public body meetings or within 30 days, whichever is later, unless the public body can show good cause for further delay. The minutes of an open session, if they exist and whether approved or in draft form, shall be available upon request by any person within "10 days". MGL c30A,s22(c),(G2)
