The Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of roadways, storm drainage systems, sidewalks, street signs, traffic signs, public parking lots, guardrails, and the town's vehicles and equipment.
General maintenance responsibilities include catch basin cleaning, street sweeping, traffic markings, dead animal removal, mowing ballparks and town parks, and snowplowing and sanding.
During winter seasons, the Highway Department requests that all vehicles be removed from streets during snow storms to allow uninterrupted snow plowing. Snow emergencies should be reported to the Highway Department.
The Highway Department is run by the Highway Surveyor. The Highway Surveyor is an elected position with a three-year term.
For issues regarding trees, please contact the Tree Warden.
