Freetown Water System

The Freetown Water Department consists of two separate water systems, one in Assonet and one in East Freetown, with water for each system supplied to the Town of Freetown by neighboring cities.

Water supplied to Assonet comes from the City of Fall River to service 385 residential and 45 commercial customers.

Water supplied to East Freetown comes from the City of New Bedford to service 211 residential and 29 commercial customer.

A map of the water system is available below.

Responsible for providing quality drinking water to a total of 670 customers in Assonet and East Freetown, the Freetown Water & Sewer Commission (FW&SC) manages approximately 17 miles of water supply lines and a booster pump station located on East Chipaway Road in East Freetown.  There is a canister filtration system located in Assonet that is no longer in use since we have been successful in maintaining THHM’s below allowable level by using alternative methods that do not require the charcoal filtration.

The Freetown Water & Sewer Commission is required by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection to perform periodic testing to ensure that our water meets or exceeds all local, state, and federal drinking water standards.  To best serve our customers we have water sample testing done weekly, monthly, and quarterly at multiple locations to ensure that we are providing safe, clean, monitored water.

Our Annual Drinking Water Quality Reports are available here and at the Freetown Town Hall located at 3 North Main Street, Assonet, MA.

Additionally, the FW&SC has two commercial and one residential sewer customers for which we are responsible.
