Annual Flushing Program Begins the Week of April 13, 2020

Freetown Water Flushing Program

The Freetown Water & Sewer Commission will begin it's annual flushing of water lines in Assonet beginning the week of April 13, 2020.  Flushing will continue through November 2020.  Flushing water lines does not increase cost of water to customers or the Town of Freetown.

This program is designed to continue to provide clean, potable water to our customers without the use of charcoal filters. The water received from the City of Fall River is safe and within all state regulated guidelines, which we then pass along to our Assonet customers.

We are flushing at 5 hydrants in Assonet, and they will be running continuously, so do not be alarmed.

There are 5 bleeders in Assonet and these bleeders allow us to keep flush water lines and water moving.  During the winter months, sediment may build up -- if you notice a discolouration of water while the bleeders begin to be activated, let the water run until clear.

If you have any questions, please contact the Freetown Water & Sewer Commission by email at waterdept@freetownma.gov or by phone 508-644-4000 (though keep in mind that as of this posting, we are working remotely when possible, not in the office full time).
