Welcome to The treasurer's officeTreasurer & Collector of Taxes
Beginning July 1, 2010, the positions of Treasurer and Collector of Taxes have been combined into one.
The Treasurer is responsible for the deposit, investment and disbursement of town funds. The treasurer is authorized to issue debt authorized by town meeting, or statute, on behalf of the town, wit approval of the Selectmen. The treasurer determines the cash needs of the town and determines what is available to invest and when money needs to be borrowed to meet expenses. While only the treasurer can sign checks to pay the town's bills, the treasurer cannot release any funds until the warrant is prepared by the town accountant and approved by the Selectmen. The treasurer is also responsible for banking relations.
The Collector of Taxes collects taxes and excises due to the town. Tax Collectors also pursue delinquent accounts. If you are having a problem with the payment of taxes, please contact the collector's office for resolution. Non-payment of taxes may cause you to pay interest and additional collection charges. Additionally, non-payment of taxes may result in the loss of property.
If you should have any questions about the role of the treasurer, collector, or the office, please feel free to give us a call.
