Station 1 "Assonet Village"

3 Elm Street

Station 1 is located at 3 Elm Street in the Assonet Village section of town. Station 1 was opened in 1948 and was the town’s first purpose-built fire station. Fire apparatus in Assonet were kept at the town hall prior to this. Station 1 is an unstaffed “call” station and is manned on an as-needed basis with off-duty and on-call firefighters. Station 1 houses one engine and one squad/forestry vehicle. Look below for more information.

Engine 1

Engine 1 is a 2021 KME Severe Service pumper. Engine 1 is the primary firefighting vehicle out of Station 1 and responds first to all fire and rescue calls in the Assonet Village. Engine 1 is equipped with a Hale 1500 gallon per minute pump and a 1,000 gallon water tank. Engine 1 also carries the Jaws of Life and various medical equipment for motor vehicle accidents. 

Squad 1

Squad 1 is a 2012 Ford F-550/Fouts Brothers squad/forestry vehicle. Squad 1 serves as a multi-purpose quick response vehicle and is first due out of Station 1 for medical emergencies and brush fires. It responds behind Engine 1 for all other calls. Squad 1 is also used for special details and to tow department boats and trailers. Squad 1 is equipped with a Darley 370 gallon per minute pump and a 300 gallon water tank. It also carries various medical equipment and is defibrillator-equipped. This vehicle waspurchased with funding from a 2011 FEMA Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant.
